The Independent Traveller offers travellers a personal service in providing self – catering ( rental) properties in London and other UK Cities, to suit their individual tastes and budgets.       We cut out hours of searching the NET by suggesting inspected and reliable properties.to suit clients needs.

HISTORY

Mary Ette started the company after being asked by friends abroad to find them accommodation in UK for holidays or business visits. Many were tired of hotel rooms and were looking for more space and privacy than a hotel provides, especially when visiting for several weeks. It soon became clear that most wanted to spend time in London and that became the focus of the company’s business. Mary spent hours visiting apartments in London, building relationships with the owners or managers.

In the 80’s most business was conducted by phone and letter, and later fax, but by the mid 90’s e-mail and the internet had made everything so much easier and faster.

Most clients now are regular visitors or their referrals . The company also has close relainships with travel agents in the USA, Australia and New Zealand who send clients also.

PERSONNEL

” The Independent Traveller” is still a family business with Mary and Simon Ette being joint partners. Mary started her professional life after University as an English teacher, teaching  in the UK, Kenya and Brussels. Simon, after Agricultural college and a period working in Denmark, spent many years managing a farm in Oxfordshire before joining Mary in 1995.
